Songs for Jay Kay
Good news, everyone! I am honored and humbled to announce that I will be featured on an upcoming CD for suicide and depression awareness entitled, Songs For Jay Kay alongside The Frames, Mundy, and a slew of Irish talent. I will also be playing on the main stage of the CD release night, details to be announced soon! I'll be in the studio soon to record the track with Nightgroove Studios. I am very excited to be part of such an important project, and big thanks to Homegrown Music and Shane Moloney Management for putting it together. Stay tuned for more information!
Ain't No Rest for the Wicked
What a whirlwind the last couple of weeks have been! From Sin É to Abner Brown's Barbershop to Whelan's Folk Club to Sweeney's Dimestore Recordings to the Cobblestone Backroom Sessions, it's been an amazing privilege to play in these amazing venues, but also to share the stage with some truly talented musicians.
Folks like Jem Mitchell, Niall Thomas, Baker Jnr, Wynner, Markas Carcas, Ray Scully, Andy Delamere, Christian Collins and Mick Heslin never cease to amaze me, and are well worth the time to check them out. I was also knocked over by some great bands at Dimestore like Cult Called Man, Megacone, and She's a Beauty.
I would also like to introduce you to some new friends from the Great White North, The Stampede City Sessions. Their loss was our gain when their flight was delayed, as they came to Abner Browns Acoustic Picnic and recorded all of the performances and some interviews with the musicians. They host some pretty amazing talent on their TV show over their in Calgary, be sure to give them a look as well.
It's definitely made for an unforgettable few weeks, and I'm really looking forward to September and whatever other wonders the rest of the year has in store. Be sure to watch this space as well as Twitter and Facebook for updates on my music as well as some of my talented friends from the U.S. and Ireland. Cheers!
This week in Chris Maxey Musicing...
Then Saturday I'll be at Sin É with Chase Nova and the Devil's Jukebox, free in, and tasty wings from Just Wing It! Kicks off at 9, be there!
Two great shows coming up this week! Wednesday at half 8 I'll be at The Globe Bar for the Song Room with The Midnight Hour Band, Kev Man, and Kory Quinn!
The Mezz- Loud and Clear Collective
Hey there! It's a beautiful day in Dublin, and I'm looking forward to my third appearance at The Loud and Clear Collective at The Mezz tonight in Temple Bar! It's sure to be a great lineup, great beer promos, and it's free in! Huzzah!
...With a Single Step
Hey you beautiful people.
For those of you who are just tuning in, I've recently moved to Dublin, Ireland to pursue a masters degree in International Politics at Trinity College.
Before moving, I had one helluva summer playing shows all over town, organizing the Rock the Arts music festival, and seeing everybody one last time before jetting across the pond. We went out with a bang, and it wouldn't have been possible without my friends, family, and the music community to support me. You really know how to make a guy feel loved.
Check out the pictures from this summer here.
Now What?
It's hopeless. I'm falling in love with Dublin. Amazing people, great music, tasty beer, what's not to like? The music scene here will light you from below and within. University and coursework monopolize much of my time, but I'll still be able to find a moment or three to play a few acoustic shows, record a little demo EP, and maybe even try my hand at busking. I'll keep you updated through the usual social news tubes and this blog. Don't touch that dial, there'll be plenty of new content soon.
And it all starts tonight.
I'm playing a few tunes at the Song Cycle acoustic showcase at Whelan's tonight. No cover charge, everything kicks off at 9:00.
To new beginnings.. cheers.
Orange Sky
It's been awhile since we've talked, isn't it? Don't take it personally, there's been a lot going on around here. Y'know, life. Yes, we're still friends, time won't change that. What's my schedule like this weekend? Wow, what a question. I'm glad you asked.
Tomorrow night we'll be at Norb Andy's Tabarin like we are every Thursday, and Mr. Jeff Adams will be our special guest, making his solo, singer-songwriter debut. I'm sure you've seen him sit in on several Thursdays; he's a monster guitar player. I'm really excited to have him show off his original work, as well as those lead licks he pulls off every week already.
Speaking of which, Jeff will also be joining us on guitar this Saturday for the Trio's triumphant return at Mowie's Cue after a much needed break. So, I guess we'll be the Chris Maxey Trio+1 this time? Jeff adds plenty on guitar, and it sure has been a blast trading licks with him in practice. I'm really looking forward to this show; it's something you definitely do not want to miss. The band will be starting at 8:30 with a small acoustic set to warm things up, followed by three sets with the electric blues-rock you've come to know and love. Come get you some of this, it's going to be great.
Yeah, I thought you'd ask about that. Our EP has been put on hold due to some family medical emergencies (everything's good now, thanks for asking). However, it's only a short delay, and we'll be rescheduling with Ric Major of Middle Option Music this week to get a few tracks down to "tape". We'll keep you posted on updates as they happen.
Finally, the Trio will be one of many bands that are playing a benefit for a brother musician and his fiancée, Jason Bassett of the band Seeing Daylight. Last month they lost their home and all of their possessions to fire. Luckily no one was hurt, but they also lost the family dog. The event is being held this Sunday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Curve Inn, and the Trio takes the stage from 6:00-6:45, right before Seeing Daylight plays. I think we'll bring Jeff Adams out for this one, too.
We (musicians) often say support your local music scene, but benefits like these mean more to local musicians than any packed Saturday night. Come support a great cause, have a couple beers, and rock out with us. It's more than a worthwhile way to spend a Sunday, and it would mean a lot.

Play that Funky Music
The Chris Maxey Trio is very proud to announce that we'll be going into the studio to cut a three song EP with Ric Major and Middle Option Music in February! The future is bright, and we're very excited. The EP will feature staples of Chris's show, including Ramen Noodle Girl, Morning Misses You, and Warm Enough! Stay tuned for release dates!
Sleep When We Die
This weekend is jam packed with shows, and due to recording, it'll be your last time to see the Trio until late March!
Thursday kicks it all off with Chris Maxey and Friends featuring Devin Williams! Check out this talented and passionate up and comer while he plays originals as well as his fresh take on great artists like Gary Clark Jr. and Bob Marley! We'll have plenty of other friends to sit in and jam, come see who it'll be this week!
Then on Friday the Trio will be rocking out Frankie's 49er from 8-midnight! There's sure to be some great jams as well as some brand new tunes, definitely a night you don't want to miss.
Finally on Saturday, Chris and Nate Cozadd (check out his website here) will be playing a duo acoustic show at one of Springfield's newest venues, The Albatross! Be sure to come check out the full menu and bar from 8 to midnight!

In the Spirit of Radio
This week Chris's special guest at Norb Andy's is the incredibly talented Patrick Russel! He'll be playing some of his own tunes as well as some Hedwig tunes, don't miss this special treat!
Next Thursday Chris will not be at Norb Andy's, but with his Trio at Boondocks from 8:30-11:30 playing acoustic and electric tunes! He'll be back at Norb's the following Thursday. We'll see you then!

Happy
We've got big plans and big goals, and we're so happy with the direction we're going in. First of all, we had an amazing time playing Jingle Jam IV in support of such a great cause. Click here to see how you can contribute! Also, we'll be going into the studio to record our first EP in the first quarter of 2013!
Upcoming Shows:
Tonight we have Pete Sander as our special guest at Norb Andy's, next week we have Patrick Russel, and then on the 20th we'll be playing a late evening show at Boondocks! Can you dig it?
Before the Storm
Here at Trio Central, we're battening down the hatches for the rush of gigs we have coming up in the next couple of months. We've put together some new posters and promotional material to bring our message to the masses.
Up and Coming:
This week we've got our weekly Chris Maxey and Friends show back with a very talented singer-songwriter, Matt Skinner, as well as plenty of other musicians looking for a good jam. It'll be a good night you don't want to miss.
Then this Sunday the 2nd the Trio will be playing the annual Jingle Jam at Southwind Park in Springfield, IL in benefit to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. We'll be playing a small set from 4:15-4:45, but be sure to come out for the whole show, as there is plenty of talent on the bill!
A Thousand Words, or Some Such...
Thanks to the lovely and talented Janet Morris, the Trio has some new promotional photos to share! These guys have so much personality, and it definitely comes through in these pictures. Check them out on our gallery page!
We have some great dates coming up, too! There will be no Chris Maxey and Friends show this Thursday (have a happy Thanksgiving!), but we'll be back on the 29th with Matt Skinner as our special guest. That Sunday, December 2nd, we're doing a small set at Southwind Park to benefit the St. Jude's Hospital. Get all the details at our Shows page!
The 49'er, Our Maiden Voyage
We had a great time at the 49er last night! Chris played a couple of acoustic sets to warm up the night, then the band got on stage to do a little rockin' and rollin' (mostly rockin'). Our first time out for a gig, we had a great time and appreciate everyone who came out to support us! We're excited for the future, and look forward to all of our upcoming dates!
